About New York Criminal History

New York criminal records are divided among several public systems. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services maintains the fingerprint-supported repository, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision operates state custody tools, and NY DCJS maintains the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Courts and local agencies create other parts of the record across 62 counties. We built this private reference site to make those boundaries clear and help readers identify the statewide system or county office that holds the source material they need.

Why We Built This Site

Public access in New York depends on choosing the system that created the record. NY DCJS receives fingerprinted arrest events and court dispositions for the official state repository. DOCCS tracks people in state prison or under community supervision. The New York State Sex Offender Registry provides the public access allowed by Correction Law Article 6-C, while the Unified Court System supplies criminal case channels. Local police, correctional agencies, and courts still create arrest reports, booking records, jail rosters, and source case files. The county directory routes readers to the local layer when a statewide search does not hold the full record.

An official record must come from its source, such as NY DCJS, the court, DOCCS, or the local agency that created it. This site only identifies those routes.
